About the Farm Midwives:
"In 1970, over 200 visionaries left San Francisco on a quest for a new way of life that would establish a stronger connection to the values of humanity. A powerful element in this voyage of discovery was the belief that the sanctity of birth should be returned to the family. Birth was regarded as a natural and fulfilling experience that empowered women and bonded the family together.” - The Farm Midwifery Center
The caravan ended up in Summertown, Tennessee and those members formed The Farm. The midwives who first delivered babies on the caravan to Tennessee - Deborah Flowers, RN, CPM, Pamela Hunt, CPM, Carol Nelson, LPN, CPM and Joanne Santana, RN, CPM (along with Sara Rosser, CPM) taught their last midwife assistant workshop in August 2019. I became a midwife assistant during this week-long stay at The Farm.
The experience of being with these women was one of the most beautiful and magical times of my life.
