Horses were always going to be part of the deal. We are five or six generations deep of horse people on my mother’s side of the family. But sometimes I wonder if they hadn’t been part of my upbringing, would they still have shown up? Maybe I’m always going to be piqued by work that involves them or people who engage with these amazing creatures.
I grew up on Innisfree Farm where my mom taught young people to ride. My sister and I rode our hearts out - me on my Appaloosa and her on her Thoroughbred. She bought the farm from my folks when they retired and has a busy riding facility today where our daughter is a student.
There is a certain amount of magic involved in being with horses, and any time I feel my batteries running a little low, I head to the barn- even if it’s just to breathe it in.
